DPC SIG Bulletin November 2008
PMI® Design Procurement Construction Specific Interest Group                          November 2008

Congratulations to the Construction Industry Institute
on It's 25th Anniversary

CII celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary last month. CII began in October 1983 as a recommendation from a five-year study of the engineering and construction industry. In the late 1970s, The Business Roundtable - 250 CEOs of the largest corporations in the U.S. - witnessed the staggering inflation and labor disputes that were sending the nation's economy into a deep, downward spiral. Construction, while contributing some eight to ten percent of the gross domestic product at that time had positioned itself as the nation's top industry, but was at the forefront of cost overruns and in the center of nasty standoffs between management and labor over wage demands. Now, 25 years later, we join in the celebration of the establishment of CII, the knowledge leader for project success.

Volunteers Needed for Publication and Mentoring Initiatives

Publication Program
The DPC SIG is looking for volunteers to assist in the development of booklets specific to our Industry. The idea behind this initiative is to translate into practical guides the best examples of project management as it applies to four Construction Sectors (Airport, Industrial Business Park, Highway & Railway, Residential). The first publication is about Project Management applied to the Residential Sector with specific focus on "Green" issues and innovation. It will be issued as a draft to a Panel of Expert at the end of this year and it will be presented to the SIG community on 16th of February 2009 with a webinar that will be free to our members.

Your support and contribution is critical in providing input and in delivering a useful working tool for our Professional Community. The only criteria for volunteering is your enthusiasm for project management and the Construction Sector. Please note the call for volunteers for this first publication will close on 30th of November.

If you are willing to contribute to the publications or just curious about this initiative please contact our Deputy First Vice Chair Fabrizio Rossi at deputyfirstvicechair@dpcsig.org or administrator@dpcsig.org.

Note: we experienced a technical problem with the email provided above and you may have received an error message when applied. We do apologize for the inconvenience and we warmly invite you to re-express your interest in this initiative.

Mentoring Program
The DPC SIG is also looking for volunteers to assist in the development of a mentoring program for our members. Please contact Judy Wilks at vcmembership@dpcsig.org.
